Things I’m Reading

I’ve just finished Groundswell by Charlene Li & Josh Bernoff and am working on Made to Stick by Chip Heath & Dan Heath.

Groundswell was really a very motivating and interesting book devoted to understanding how this crazy interwebs thing works and how as a business (or personally) you want to participate and in what way. It’s a pretty quick read and makes you want to step up your game.  I also really enjoy the Groundswell Blog which talks about interesting things happening on the web, predictions on what is up next, and more.

Made to Stick is a good take on how people communicate ideas.  Why are some ideas unforgettable?  So far, the book is focusing on how to capture attention and gain momentum for your idea. There are 6 principles for making ideas “stick” – simplicity, unexpectedness, concreteness, credibility, emotional, and stories.

I’m also checking out the CraftMBA blog.  There’s a lot of great posts about being a creative person and a business person.  There’s even a section of recommended reading that you should check out if you’re looking for some other great books!

transform the way you communicate ideas.  How can you make ideas unforgettable?  The authors show how ideas catch on, or “stick” in the minds of many people.  Made to Stick focuses on how to capture attention and gain momentum in support of an idea.  It provides six principles for creating and communicating ideas that “stick,” (simplicity, unexpectedness, concreteness, credibility, emotional, and stories). There are great examples and case studies that illustrate these principles.  A good read to learn how to communicate more clearly and effectively!
