The Meetup Jan/Feb

Hard to believe it is the start of February already!  Time for the Meetup!

Last month I did a general 2010 goals list, so there’s not really a big recap, but here’s my update:

*Learning to cook better – successful work in progress, pumpkin muffins, sweet potato soup, brownies = yum!

*Networking – went to indiewed!  (info to be posted soon)

*Math – checking out some free Online courses

*Making more things and procrastinating less with the DIY house stuff – meh. ongoing.  Took down some ugly paneling in the basement & prepping to redo the walls/flooring sometime soon 🙂

For February goals –

*Bakery’s Half-Dozen class – I’ve noticed a few fellow Meetup people will be participating – yeah!! can’t wait for the class to start!!  I’m going kind of light on my actual goals so I can focus on the class!

*Custom communion invitation / thank you cards

*Continue general 2010 goals (Cooking/Baking, Networking, DIY) and getting better at posting about it!

How did everyone do for January?  Hope it was a great month & start to the year!!  Check out Athena Designs to learn more about the Meetup!

The Meetup

Yeah!  Thank you Liz for making a new home for The Meetup! (formerly the Modish Biz Tips Monthly Goal Meetup thanks Jena for keeping up the fab tips/posts!)

The Meetup is made up of entrepreneurs • artists • new business owners that gather {electronically} at the beginning of each month to post our goals, our hopes and our dreams for our businesses. Check out this posting to learn more on how you can participate!

2010 Monthly Goals List

Welcome to 2010 – Happy New Year!!  I hope everyone had a great holiday& start to the year!

I really love participating in the Modish Monthly (to be continued at Athena Dreams), but I thought for January, instead of listing my biz goals I’d list things I’d like to do more this month/year in general.

*Learning to cook better (I’m especially inspired by the recipes & photos of Cannelle et Vanille, Sunday Suppers, Smitten Kitchen, the Gluttonous Vegan Loves You)

*Networking (love checking out Lara Casey’s Making Things Happen movement)

*Math eh, I’m not all that excited about that one, but its necessary and important – and apparently there’s some free Online courses from MIT even…

*Making more things and procrastinating less with the DIY house stuff (I wish I was as focused as Young House Love)

I hope everyone from the Monthly Biz Tips had a wonderful holiday & did fantastic for the goals/listing for January!

(this is what it looks like outside my window!)

Behind the Times – Nov/Dec Goals

First, let me say a BIG thank you to Jena to having the Modish Biz Tips Monthly Goals, I’m so appreciative of her knowledge and the friends I’ve met through the blog.  Here’s hoping to a passing of the torch for 2010!!

My Nov goals kinda got pushed to the side for holiday, but here goes anyway:

1. CPA/Taxes – :p I called some people, so moving forward, but not done yet.

2. Holiday cards/holiday paper designs – work in progress.  just working on the cards for O&B to send!

3. Work on some fun print projects inspired by Printing by Hand book by Lena Corwin.  Blog these! – WIP too, more to come soon (holidays willing).

For Dec, I plan to just continue w/ the same ones from November.  The holidays are here, and I’d like to be realistic.

My bonus goal revolves around making all the paper goodies for our Holiday Cookie Exchange (pix to come!).

Hoping everyone at the Biz Tips had a great November, and is off to a lovely wonderful holiday season!!

November Monthly Goals

Well, November is here already, and sad to say, I didn’t get very far on my goals this month.  I think I need to take some time out & review what I can realistically get done… My daylighting (real life job) was busy this month & I was traveling for a week, so I didn’t get as far along as I would have liked…

October Breakdown:

1. Do research on calligraphy class. Done, but no classes available yet…

2. CPA/Taxes – 😦 not done…

3. More holiday cards/holiday paper designs. 😦 not done…

4. More blogging – this is 1/2 & 1/2.

5. Work on some fun print projects inspired by Printing by Hand book by Lena Corwin. also, not done…

For November:

I’m going to relist most of what was left from October. It’s a busy holiday month w/ friends and family, so I’m going to be somewhat easy on myself…

1. CPA/Taxes – make an appt w/ tax person to see what I need to do to get officially started & open the shop.  For real.

2. Holiday cards/holiday paper designs.

3. Work on some fun print projects inspired by Printing by Hand book by Lena Corwin.  Blog these!

Can’t wait to see how everyone from the Modish Monthly Goals meet up did!!  Good luck to all for November!

Monthly Recap

Hello October!  When did you get here?! September has been a very quick month with a lot of DIY projects and little time for much else…

Here’s the plan for October:

2. CPA/Taxes – stop haunting me.  I have to get this settled to open up shop!

3. More holiday cards/holiday paper designs.

4. More blogging – sometimes I post a lot, other weeks, not so much…

5. Work on some fun print projects inspired by Printing by Hand book by Lena Corwin.

and September’s recap: I did pretty good for Sept, mostly because I didn’t add much to the Sept. goals lists since we’d be working on the house!

1. Continue Paper Feature on blog Done, this is a fun goal!

2. Shop policies Done!

3. Biz cards/stationery continue from Aug. Done!

4. CPA/taxes – Urgh. Not finished… I still procrastinate…although I did get some library books to continue researching

Can’t wait to see how everyone from the Modish Monthly Goals meet up did!!  Good luck to all for October!

August Monthly Goals?

Hello September, goodbye August.  I am not ready for cool fall days just yet, but here in Chicago, it seems fall is coming early…

Here’s my Modish Month Goals list I set up for August & the feedback…

1. General Business meeting – finalize details for busi. cards, stationery, product lineup & packaging partly done,  working on the files to finish up the cards/stationery

2. CPA – get tax info / financial benefits to understand how best to move forward (& not get into any trouble w/ the IRS!) Researched a few places from Score biz website & around the web to get info on Chicago CPA’s… this will be an ongoing goal as we figure things out…

3. Follow up meeting w/ busi. card/stationery client – done

4. Research –  postage/freight, returns/shop policies USPS flat rate packages until be my started till we launch into bigger /  more time sensitive orders.  Working on the shop policy side still, work in progress.

5. Buying Day – this is kind of incorporated into the General Busi. Mtg, a general buying of supplies to get moving on the stock to create inventory and stationery things .  This is my fun / inspirational goal to get things moving in the right direction, without being too “business-y” Yeah this is done, I’ll post some pix of the fun papery stuff this week.

6. New paper feature on the blog – this is another fun goal to keep updated on whats new in the paper world and inspiration for new creative projects.  This should be a pretty easy goal! Yeah! This is done!

I’d say its a little less then half. Meh, Hope everyone at Monthly Goals Gals had a great month!

Sept. will be a hard one as we are working on some updating DIY around the house, so I might not accomplish as much as I’d like to. So, September, it seems you are here already & here’s my proposed goals.

1. Continue Paper Feature on blog – this was fun and keeps me updated on what fabulous papers are available for inspiration.

2. Shop policies – finish this up, not too much left from Aug, just need to write it all out

3. Biz cards/stationery continue from Aug. – finish the files up for printing

4. CPA/taxes – I really need to get this done, but its not the most fun thing on the list… I procrastinate…

5. Work on some holiday cards to send out for Owl and Bunny & for sale… – stay tuned!

Good luck to everyone for September – may fall inspire us all to work on fun new projects!
